Man shot and killed by RCMP in Clyde River, Nunavut

In a news release Friday morning, RCMP said they received a report around 9:45 p.m. that "multiple shots had been fired from a residence." They said when they arrived on scene, they were confronted by a man with a firearm.

Incident follows shelter-in-place order in the community

Nunavut RCMP shot and killed a man in Clyde River, Nunavut, on Thursday.

In a news release Friday morning, RCMP said they received a report around 9:45 p.m. that "multiple shots had been fired from a residence."

Police then issued a shelter in place alert for the community. 

Police said when they arrived to the scene, they were confronted by a man with a firearm. 

"As a result of a confrontation with the adult male, shots were fired. The male is now confirmed to be deceased," the release said. 

Nunavut RCMP said they have sent additional resources to Clyde River and the investigation is in its early stages. 

They are also working to find an external police agency to lead the investigation. 

The RCMP said they won't be commenting further.
