Six people inside held door shut, tried to scare bear off
A Behchoko, N.W.T. family got a surprise visit Sunday from a curious bear.
The family was doing some work on their house near Frank Channel. About an hour after they ate dinner, a full-grown black bear started pushing on the front door.
Richard Lafferty was one of the six people in the house.
"We managed to close it and lock it and we had one person holding it," says Lafferty. "He was trying to get into the porch. He came back to the window, he started pushing on it . . . he wasn’t scared."
The bear wouldn’t leave and was eventually shot.
Several of the people in the house had photo and video cameras. Footage of the bear trying to barge into the house is now posted on the video-sharing website YouTube.
