Last wooden bridge on major road in Yukon set for replacement

The Nares River Bridge in Carcross, Yukon — the last wooden bridge on a major highway in the territory — will be replaced.

The contract will be tendered late this summer, the government said in a news release.

Known locally as Naataase Héen Bridge, the government plans to spend $1.5 million this year to begin the three year project.

The wooden bridge was built in 1970, and is nearing the end of its life-cycle, the government said.  

It will be replaced with a concrete version.
