New app offers audio tours of Yellowknife’s Old Town

Barges, float planes, the recipe for fried fish… if you want to get to know Old Town Yellowknife a little better, well… there's an app for that.

Two Yellowknifers launched a new app this week  one that will bring the stories, people, history and quirky details of the city’s Old Town to life for visitors.

The Yellowknife Old Town Soundwalk app for smartphones or iPads guides users through the four neighbourhoods of Old Town.

“It's like having your own personal tour guide,” says Rosanna Strong, who developed the app along with Janna Graham.

“We have narration, we have soundbites of Old Town voices like Barb Bromley and Walt Humphries and Ryan Silke and Fran Hurcomb, and we have musical folks like Andrea Bettger and Ryan McCord and Pat Braden.”

The app isn’t available on iTunes yet, but you can buy it at the Google Play Store.
