"The community as usual is always coming together, they seem to be doing OK right now," said Tony Akoak.

A funeral has already been held and the department of health has flown in three counsellors to help anyone who needs to talk.

"The people directly affected — they've been talking to them and helping them out and also anyone who needs to speak to them was invited to go to their sessions," said Akoak.

The sessions are being held in the afternoons as well as in the evenings until eight or nine.

On Wednesday, Nunavut's coroner confirmed that she's conducting an independent investigation into how the baby died.

This investigation will be independent from the one being undertaken by the ministry of health, which reported the death as a "critical incident."
