Codeshare airlines to face heat in Nunavut legislature today
First Air, Canadian North and Calm Air to answer MLAs' questions at meeting
Representatives from First Air, Canadian North and Calm Air will be at Nunavut's Legislative Assembly in Iqaluit today to answer questions from MLAs about their codeshare agreements.
Late last year Nunavut Premier Peter Taptuna, along with the Department of Health, sent letters to the airlines outlining concerns they had with changes in service, in particular the codeshare agreements between the airlines.
The agreements came into effect last year, after Canadian North and First Air called off merger talks. First Air has said the codeshare agreements that allow for sharing of passengers and cargo on select routes are needed to keep the company's operations financially viable.
The Canadian Competition Bureau is conducting a review of the companies' codeshare practices to see if the agreements are lessening competition.
The meeting is scheduled to run 9 a.m.-5 p.m. It is open to the public and will be televised.
