Nunavut contributes $25K to help victims of Fort McMurray wildfire

Grade 4 students in Kugaaruk, Nunavut, are drumming up loose change and the Nunavut government is giving $25,000 to the Canadian Red Cross to help victims of the Fort McMurray forest fires.

The Government of Nunavut is contributing $25,000 to the Canadian Red Cross to help victims of the Fort McMurray forest fires.

"Inuit social values teach us to serve and provide for family and community," stated Premier Peter Taptuna in a media release.

"On behalf of all Nunavummiut, I extend our thoughts to all those in Fort McMurray. Stay safe and strong; we are with you in spirit," wrote Taptuna

The aid is earmarked for people directly affected and displaced by the forest fires.

The Nunavut Protection Services has also contacted the Alberta Emergency Management Agency to offer any logistic or administrative support needed.

The Government of Nunavut says it has not yet heard back about this offer.  

Meanwhile, Grade 4 students in Kugaaruk, Nunavut, are also doing their part. 

They managed to raise close to $250 to send to people affected by the fires.
