Nunavut MLAs back to work at legislature as winter sitting begins
3-week sitting begins Thursday, with territorial budget to be introduced next week
Nunavut MLAs will be back in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday, as the winter sitting gets underway. It will run for three weeks, until Mar. 11.
Government house leader David Joanasie said there are several bills currently before the legislature, including amendments to the Business Credit Corporation Act, the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and the Post-secondary Education Support Act.
Joanasie said there will also be eight government bills introduced this sitting, and three money bills.
MLAs will also debate the territorial budget which will be tabled on Monday.
Joanasie said the government is keeping a close eye on what's going on outside of Nunavut — including a potential trade war with the U.S. — as budget deliberations are set to begin.
"We will be trying to be mindful around how we move forward, and I'm working with my colleagues to ensure that we can minimize any potential negative impacts," he said.
