The first budget of the N.W.T.'s 18th Legislative Assembly was presented Wednesday by Finance Minister Robert C McLeod in an address at 1:30 p.m. MT.

Prior to the presentation, the territory's leaders warned of spending cuts, saying that the N.W.T. must "live within its means," and that they aim to lower spending but raise revenues.

Last week, 58 people who work for the territorial government were warned they may lose their jobs as the government faces a looming fiscal challenge related to declining resource production and a major slowdown in mineral exploration.
