Nunavut's health department has officially declared an end to tuberculosis outbreaks in Pangnirtung and Pond Inlet.

Both communities have been dealing with the outbreak for years. For Pangnirtung, whose outbreak was first declared on Nov. 25, 2021, 47 active cases and 225 latent cases were detected during the course of the outbreak. For Pond Inlet, whose outbreak was first declared on March 17, 2023, 13 active and 117 latent cases were detected.

On Wednesday, the health department issued public health advisories about the outbreaks ending. It said all cases and contacts "have been assessed and treated as needed, and the risk of transmission is now low."

It said tuberculosis is still present in Nunavut and encouraged community members to keep an eye out for symptoms in the future.
