As of July 1, parking and aircraft landing fees are going up at the Yellowknife airport.

In a news release Monday, the government of the Northwest Territories said the changes are to "better align" the Yellowknife airport's fees with comparable airports across Canada, "ensuring the airport remains financially sustainable while providing high-quality services."

It's currently free to park for less than one hour at the airport's short-term lot; after the increase, it will cost $2/hour, every hour after will be an additional $2. The daily fee in that lot is going from $15 to $20; weekly goes from $75 to $85; monthly is going up from $225 to $245.

Long-term parking fees are increasing as well. In that lot, the one-day fee will go from $7.50 to $12; per month will go from $150 to $190. The weekly charge is $80. Lost ticket fees are going from $150 to $250.

The fees for aircraft landing at the Yellowknife airport are also going up minimally.

The release said fees the airport collects cover the cost of providing services and do not generate profit. The last airport free increase was in 2017.
