A pickup truck caught on fire after hitting a deer early Friday morning on the Klondike Highway north of Whitehorse.
The Whitehorse Fire Department was called around 4:45 a.m. to help the Hootalinqua volunteer fire department deal with the vehicle fire.
Barry Blisner of the Whitehorse fire crew says the pickup was headed north on the highway when a small deer jumped out onto the road.
After the animal was hit the front end of the truck caught on fire. Blisner says it was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived.
He says the driver was shaken but was not injured. The deer was killed.
The Hootalinqua volunteer fire department will investigate.
