The power went out in parts of Whitehorse and the Southern Lakes area, at around 9 a.m. PT.

"We had a raven short circuit one of our main substation transformers," says Jay Massie with ATCO Electric Yukon.

"It got in there and caused an electrical arc, which caused a really large fault on our system."

Massie says power was restored to 7,500 customers in 50 minutes and power was completely restored by 11 a.m.
