Voters in Deline, N.W.T., have elected Raymond Tutcho chief of the new Deline Gotine Government starting this fall.

Voters in Deline, N.W.T., have elected Raymond Tutcho chief of the new Deline Gotine Government starting this fall.

Tutcho won over Raymond Taneton by four votes.

The community also elected six councillors: Danny Bayha, Timothy Betsidea, Freda Taniton, Jane Modeste, Raymond Taneton and Morris Neyelle.

The election was one of the final steps before the community transitions to self-government in September. 

The new leaders won't take office until ratification on Sept. 1. They will hold their first meeting with the current leadership and the self-government transition team this afternoon.

Once it comes into power, the new government will take responsibility for things such as health, justice and education.
