N.W.T. RCMP say person was held against their will in Hay River over unpaid drug debt
Person escaped and was unharmed, RCMP say

N.W.T. RCMP say they responded to a report of a person being held against their will in Hay River on Monday night. They say it was related to an unpaid drug debt.
In a news release Wednesday, RCMP say officers received a report around 10 p.m. Monday that a person was being held at an unknown location in the community.
RCMP called in more resources, including police dog services.
"Several hours later, further information was received that the person had escaped. Police were able to confirm the victim was not harmed," the statement said.
RCMP say they're still investigating and no charges have been laid.
The South Slave region has seen a number of serious drug-related crimes in recent months. N.W.T. RCMP recently launched Project Guardian, an initiative that connects officers from Fort Smith, Hay River, and Fort Resolution, allowing them to be deployed across the region to target illegal activities and enhance public safety.
