Santa’s garbage truck returns to Whitehorse streets
Christmas tradition returns 3 years after city sold Santa's old truck
A Whitehorse Christmas tradition is back on the streets: Santa Claus is riding around the city in a garbage truck decked out in more than 1,500 Christmas lights.
City employee Wayne Henderson says the truck's return is thanks to a lot of corporate and community support.
Santa says it's good to be back.
"It was always in my heart to do this," he says. "It’s nice to see the smiles on the kids faces and even the grown ups too, so it's just something I just want to pursue and just keep doing."
The city sold the garbage truck that Santa used for almost two decades in 2011.
In 2012, city councillors drove Santa around in a lit-up van instead. Last year, there was no vehicle at all.
Santa's garbage truck is back on the street this week, visiting schools around Whitehorse to hand out candy canes.
