Satirical film by N.W.T. filmmaker set to debut at TIFF
Hay River filmmaker Kelvin Redvers’s musical satire will be shown
A film by N.W.T. filmmaker Kelvin Redvers will debut at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival this fall.
Redvers, who is from Hay River, N.W.T., said he has been waiting a decade for this opportunity. His short film, The Dancing Cop, will have its world premiere as part of the Short Cuts Canada program, which shows short Canadian films.
Redvers’ film is a seven-minute musical satire.
"It broadly examines the issues of interactions between native people and police officers, which I think is something that there can be issues all across Canada. But I went in to it [by] turning it on its head and giving it an interesting flair," said Redvers.
The film was shot in Vancouver, where Redvers now lives.
The filmmaker has another project in the works – a feature-length film which he hopes to shoot in the Northwest Territories.
The Dancing Cop is not the only N.W.T. film to make it to the international film festival – N.W.T author Richard Van Camp’s adaptation of his novel The Lesser Blessed is also on the schedule.
