Second truck runs into trouble on Sahtu winter road
No injuries reported in second incident
A second truck has run into trouble on the Mackenzie Valley winter road.
A loaded tanker, which was hauling oil-based mud, jackknifed across the Selene River Hill Tuesday morning. The area is about six kilometres away from Tulita, N.W.T.
About 100 vehicles are backed up on the road due to the incident.
Earl Blacklock, with the N.W.T. Department of Transportation, said tow trucks are on their way to the site.
"The main area is at the scene of the jackknife, which is the area of approximately kilometre 832 of the Mackenzie winter road."
Blacklock said it's too early to say what caused the accident, but said there have been no injuries reported.
This is the second truck to have problems on the road in the past 24 hours.
On Monday night, a truck driver was medevaced to hospital after his vehicle rolled over on the winter road. The fuel truck driver was returning to Wrigley, N.W.T., after bringing gas to work vehicles along the road.
The driver was about 60 kilometres outside of Wrigley when the single-vehicle collision occurred.
The 60-year-old man was taken to Wrigley and then medevaced to hospital for assessment and treatment.
The winter road recently reopened after being closed for repairs due to damage from high traffic volumes — people driving to and from gas and oil camps.
Blacklock said the road is in good shape and doesn't appear to have been a factor in the collision.
