Stephen Harper to visit Whitehorse Friday, local association confirms
Conservative leader has already made northern campaign stops in Iqaluit and Hay River, N.W.T.
Conservative leader Stephen Harper will be in Whitehorse on Friday morning to make an announcement, confirmed Pat McInroy, president of the Yukon Conservative Association.
Harper will also be campaigning for incumbent and Conservative candidate Ryan Leef, who was elected by a narrow margin in the 2011 election.
Leef's campaign manager, Darren Parsons, says details about Harper's visit to Yukon are still vague but he says it's "pretty darn cool" for a sitting prime minister to visit the territory during an election campaign.
Jean Chrétien, who came to the Yukon during the 2000 federal campaign, was the last.
Harper has already made northern campaign stops in Iqaluit and Hay River, N.W.T.
Liberal leader Justin Trudeau visited Yellowknife, Inuvik and Iqaluit in January and NDP leader Tom Mulcair visited Whitehorse in March 2014 and Iqaluit in September of that year.
