N.W.T. fire officials say a telecommunications disruption in the territory has been fixed.

Police had said early Thursday afternoon that the disruption had affected landline, long distance and 911 services across the N.W.T., but that the full scope of the problem was not known.

N.W.T. fire officials then issued a statement about an hour later saying Northwestel technicians had resolved the issue, and that the Report a Fire Line (877-NWT FIRE) was operational.

There are no other details about the potential cause or extent of the telecommunications disruption.

In a separate news release on Thursday, the City of Iqaluit said it was experiencing "telecommunication connectivity issues" and residents who couldn't reach emergency services should call (867) 223-4422 in the meantime.
