Tent fire near Pond Inlet, Nunavut, sends family of 6 to hospital
A child is in critical condition after a tent fire on Sunday morning that sent two adults and four children to hospital.
One child in critical condition; others in 'serious but stable' condition
A weekend tent fire near Pond Inlet, Nunavut, has sent a family of six to hospital, with a child in critical condition and the rest of the family in serious but stable condition.
Nunavut RCMP say the family of two adults and four children, aged two to 11, was camping about a two-hour boat ride west of the community when suddenly a camp stove ignited the tent.
It happened around 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning while they were sleeping.
Pond Inlet Search and Rescue deployed a helicopter to transport the family to the local health centre.
Two medical doctors off a visiting cruise ship were able to provide assistance to the burn victims before the family was medevaced to Ottawa for further treatment.
