No caribou spotted on scouting mission so hunt called off
The fall caribou hunt for the Tlicho is cancelled this year because there are no caribou to hunt.
Behchoko resident William Mantla said that they didn't see any caribou during a scouting trip this past Sunday, so the band council decided to cancel the annual hunt. It's the first time that's happened.
"I don't feel bad," Mantla says. "It just depends on the caribou. We were going to go hunting over there but caribou, we don't know where they went or where they are."
Mantla says the scouting party didn't spot a single caribou. He says hunters will now have to wait until December or January to go caribou hunting.
