Town of Inuvik looking into Children First ceiling collapse

The Town of Inuvik, N.W.T., is puzzled about how a building that opened two years ago is already having problems.

The town owns the building that houses the Children First daycare. The daycare is cleaning up after a ceiling collapsed a week ago, breaking a water pipe and flooding a number of classrooms.

Grant Hood, Inuvik's senior administrative officer, says he hopes to find out this week what caused the collapse.

"Obviously when you have any infrastructure that fails you are going to take a look at it and [check if] there any consequences or if it has the potential of repeating itself," he said.

The town says repairs will begin immediately after all the assessments are complete.

The daycare has been told it will be late April before it will be able to return to the building.
