Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in update deal with Brewery Creek gold mine
Socio-economic agreement includes jobs, training and an equity stake
The Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in First Nation has reached an updated socio-economic deal with Golden Predator, owner of the Brewery Creek gold mine near Dawson City, Yukon.
The deal includes jobs, training and an equity stake, though Bill Sheriff, chairman and CEO of Golden Predator, would not say how much money the First Nation is investing.
"I can't tell you right now because it's confidential under terms of the agreement. Confidentiality is restricted to both sides."
Sheriff said the deal does allow for employment of members along with training opportunities and scholarship programs for Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in citizens.
"It's a good neighbour policy and when we're making a profit we certainly like to spread the wealth around."
Golden Predator is finalizing a deal with Alexco Resources to claim 100 per cent ownership of the mine. Once that's done, Sheriff said the pact with Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in will take effect.
The two sides will hold a signing ceremony in Dawson City next week.
