Mayors in Clyde River and Qikiqtarjuaq have confirmed they are dealing with an issue involving their MLA, but won't say what.

Samuel Nuqingaq narrowly took the Uqqummiut seat in the last territorial election. He won by two votes after a judicial recount.

Jerry Natanine, mayor of Clyde River, said hamlet council held a meeting this week to discuss an issue involving Nuqingaq.

Natanine said he cannot provide more information at this time.

"We just don't want to share information that makes it sound true or something that is not solid from the Government of Nunavut," he said. 

Mary Killiktee, mayor of Qikiqtarjuaq, says her council also held a meeting about Nuqingaq this week. and she won't say more.

CBC News tried several times to reach Samuel Nuqingaq without success.
