Crystal Linklater was removed from her role as a Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation councillor last week. It comes after council called on Linklater to resign in January.

The chief and council of the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation (VGFN) in Yukon have removed Crystal Linklater from her position as councillor.

Council passed a resolution to remove Linklater "effective immediately" on March 27, and gave her notice by letter the next day, the resolution said.

The removal comes after council called on Linklater to resign in a January letter.

Linklater has been on paid leave from her position as councillor since Jan. 6, "due to concerns raised by council and communicated to councillor Linklater in letters dated January 15, 2025 and February 20, 2025," the resolution said.

CBC News reached out to Linklater, and VGFN for comment. Linklater did not respond, and the First Nation via email referred back to the resolution passed on March 27.

A byelection will be held to fill the vacant seat on council.
