Weekend gun-related incidents in Hay River, N.W.T., believed to be linked to organized crime, RCMP say
In once instance, a house was set on fire and a man who fled the house was shot upon exiting
Hay River RCMP say they believe two weekend incidents, including one in which a person was shot, are linked to drugs and organized crime.
In a news release Tuesday, RCMP said they responded to two separate calls on Saturday and Monday where shots had been fired.
The first involved a house being set on fire in the area of Pine Crescent. Police said a man who left the house after noticing the fire was shot upon exiting. The man had non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect had fled the scene by the time police arrived.
Two days later, on Monday, RCMP responded to a call that shots had been fired into a home in the Rowe's trailer court. The suspects reportedly fled in a vehicle; no injuries were reported.
RCMP say the incidents are being investigated with support from several police units, including Major Crimes and Forensic Identification.
