Whitehorse firefighters pose with pups for animal shelter
Proceeds from fundraising calendar to go to Mae Bachur animal shelter
Shirtless Whitehorse firefighters are striking poses with Mae Bachur shelter animals this week for a 2015 fundraising calendar.
Firefighter Torey Wiebe, one of the volunteer models for the calendar, says local firefighters want to take part in activities that help the community.
His dog Kona came from the shelter so he says he appreciated to chance to be part of the calendar.
"It's just something I wanted to do since I decided I wanted to become a firefighter," Wiebe said.
"I wanted to promote the things we do and there are different ways of doing that and this is a positive way."
Firefighter Nicholas O'Carroll says his wife suggested doing a project with the shelter and the calendar is the result. He says sponsors are helping cover the production costs.
"All the money raised, 100 per cent of the proceeds, is going to go to Mae Bachur, helping the dogs out with the facilities, and going to their Bella fund to help with medical costs."
O'Carroll says the calendars should be on sale in October.
