Whitehorse RCMP arrest 2 in separate robbery, break and enter

Whitehorse RCMP are investigating a robbery and an attempted break-in in the city.

One suspect in Thursday night break-in fled on foot

Whitehorse RCMP arrested one man Aug. 26 after he allegedly tried to steal from a covered trailer parked at the 202 Motor Inn.

The woman in the trailer at the time told police she felt it begin to sway.

A man managed to grab her purse, but left after she and a man she was travelling with confronted the alleged thief, police said.

RCMP used a police dog to track the suspect to an alley on 3rd Avenue, where he was arrested,

A 31-year old man faces charges of robbery, breach of probation and mischief.

Break-in Thursday also leads to arrest

Whitehorse RCMP arrested one man following a break-in on 4th Avenue overnight Thursday.

In a news release, police say they received a report of an attempted break-in and arrived to find two suspects leaving the building near the intersection of 4th and Hanson Street.

"One suspect was apprehended and the second suspect fled on foot," police said. "Multiple businesses within the complex appeared to have been broken into."  

A 21-year old Whitehorse man faces three counts of break-and-enter and one count of mischief in connection with the incident.

Police say they are still investigating both incidents.
