French school, daycare, closed in Whitehorse due to gas leak

Officials with École Émilie-Tremblay and the Garderie du petit cheval blanc smelled propane early Thursday morning. Parents were told to come pick up their kids.

School officials noticed smell of propane early Thursday morning; no injuries reported

Whitehorse's École Émilie-Tremblay school and the adjoining Garderie du petit cheval blanc daycare were closed Thursday morning after officials detected a propane leak in the building.

Officials called the fire department, and emailed parents around 8 a.m. asking them not to drop off their children at the school and daycare on Falcon Drive in Logan.

There are no reports of injuries.

"We have been working in coordination with the fire department to investigate the smell," said Kyle Nightingale, with Yukon's education department. 

"Students were kept on buses at safe locations outside the school as instructed by the fire department, while they were being supervised by staff."

Nightingale says the incident is still being investigated.

The school and daycare are closed all day.
