Northern Transportation Company Limited has launched a recovery operation to rescue the barge that drifted from Canada to Russia last fall.

The World Wildlife Fund says it is concerned because the barge has passed through a sensitive marine area.

The foundation says it's been told by NTCL that the rescue operation has been covered by insurance.

The marine shipper has not responded to requests for comment.

In the past, the company has said it intends to recover the barge before the end of month.
