Yellowknife RCMP end search for ill woman
Angela Meyer has been missing since Nov. 27
Yellowknife RCMP have called off the official search for Angela Meyer, a mentally ill woman with diabetes who went missing while on a weekend pass from a psychiatric ward.
The 22-year-old Yellowknife woman disappeared from her family's downtown home at around 1:20 p.m. on Nov. 27.
Police said they've searched all places of interest and tips have dried up.
Candace Meyer, Angela's sister, said family members know police have done everything they can, but the family will continue to look for her.
"It's heart wrenching to know it's all on us now from here on out. Like, we had such a tremendous help from [police] and it's up until just, yeah, just now, they've been out every day, all day, looking for her," Candace Meyer said.
"They've been doing such a great job and just, like, it touches us day to day all the time, and they've been very supportive as well."
Meyer was home on a weekend pass from Stanton Territorial Hospital's psychiatric ward when she went missing, and only had enough insulin, anti-depressant and anti-psychotic medication to last the weekend, the family said.
Tipsters told the RCMP that they saw Meyer in the afternoon and evening of Nov. 27 and she appeared to be disoriented, police said earlier in December.
Meyer is about five feet 10 inches tall and weighs about 230 pounds. She was wearing a red and black Arctic Winter Games volunteer jacket when last seen on Nov. 27.
The family hopes Angela has just left town, her sister said. They are thankful to friends and others who have helped in the search.
