One of Yellowknife's two veterinarian services has announced it will close its doors.

In a news release Thursday, Great Slave Animal Hospital said it is closing indefinitely no later than March 31, and possibly sooner.

"Due to circumstances beyond our control, we are no longer able to give our patients the care they need and deserve in the current location," the news release stated.

It said one of its vets, Katie Denroche, plans to stay in Yellowknife and "more information about the future of her practice will be available soon."

"Dr. Katie and her team are not going anywhere. We look forward to being able to welcome you to a new location in the near future," the animal hospital wrote.

It added it will be directly contacting owners of pets who require urgent and ongoing treatments, and asked those whose pets are on long-term medications and prescription foods to get in touch in order to stock up on medication.
