RCMP have laid weapons charges against a youth, stemming from a November shooting in Iqaluit.

The RCMP responded to a call about gunshots early in the morning in the 100-block area of the Nunavut capital on Nov. 23. RCMP said when officers arrived at the scene, they were confronted by a man who pointed a firearm at them.

Shots were fired, and two people were injured.

One young person, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, now faces charges including two counts of assaulting a peace officer with a firearm and one count of possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace.

According to a RCMP news release, members of the Ottawa Police Service and investigators with the Northwest Territories RCMP's major crime unit are still investigating the police actions during the incident.
