This month's Do Crew event involves a short trip on a boat to McNabs Island, but due to overwhelming demand the window to sign up is closed.

The volunteer group Friends of McNabs Island has been taking care of the island for over 25 years. It has restored trails, installed composting toilets, added a visitor information kiosk and does an annual cleanup. The group is restoring the Victorian Gardens, as well.

The Friends of McNabs has also been installing benches along the trails so visitors to the island can rest and enjoy the views of Halifax Harbour. This Saturday, the Do Crew will be preparing the ground and installing new benches.

The CBC Nova Scotia Do Crew is a monthly initiative spearheaded by Louise Renault of Daybreak Maritimes and Halifax's Information Morning celebrating the spirit of volunteerism and community in the Halifax region.

For a few hours every month, alongside Louise, the Do Crew — consisting of CBC listeners, viewers and readers — lends a hand at an event or fundraiser for a local organization.

If you know of an organization that could use a hand from the Do Crew, email Louise at DoCrewNS@cbc.ca.
