Dalhousie University's fourth annual Stanfield Conversation explores The U.S. Election and Democracy's Global Fate.


The conversation was held on Wednesday, 7 p.m. Nov. 20, 2024, in the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium, Dalhousie Arts Centre in Halifax.

Taking place two weeks after the U.S. presidential vote, the featured speakers include:

  • Doug Saunders, The Globe and Mail international affairs columnist 

  • Debra Thompson, Canada Research Chair in Racial Inequality in Democratic Societies and Associate Professor of Political Science at McGill University

  • This year's guest moderator will be Piya Chattopadhyay, host of CBC's The Sunday Magazine. Hear highlights of the Conversation on The Sunday Magazine on Nov. 24 at 9 a.m. on CBC Radio One and the CBC Listen app.

With 2024 dubbed the Year of Elections, with more of the world's people participating in nation-wide votes than during any previous year in history. With the recent election of Donald Trump back to the White House, the conversation promises a timely and illuminating assessment of global perspectives.
