WIFT-AT Making Waves conference returns to Halifax, April 3-5
Conference celebrates, helps expand representation and gender equity in regional screen industry

During this conference, two flagship events will spotlight the next generation of creators and recognize contributions of key figures in the Atlantic screen industry:

the 2025 WAVE Awards, a celebration of the richness and diversity of the region's screen industry

the CBC Pitch This! Competition, a platform for emerging Atlantic Canadian talent.
The three-day event will attract influential movers and shakers in the film and entertainment industries, who come to discuss both the art and business of developing projects for film, television and the screen industry.
CBC Pitch This! Competition
The CBC Pitch This! Competition finalists will compete on Saturday, April 5 at 3:30 p.m. at The Lord Nelson Hotel & Suites, vying for a $10,000 grant sponsored by CBC, and in-kind equipment rentals from Equifilm, Sunbelt Rentals and Star Power Atlantic, alongside in-kind post-production from The Hideout Studios and 902 Post.
Each finalist will have five minutes to pitch their short film project before a panel of industry professionals and a live audience at Making Waves 2025.
Opening Night Gala
The Making Waves 2025 Opening Night Gala showcases two powerful films on Thursday, April 3, 7 p.m., at Cineplex Cinemas Park Lane: Witnessing a sweetgrass landscape on the shores of Mi'kma'ki, the Atlantic short Welima'q from director shalan joudrey is followed by a feature presentation of There, There, from award-winning Maritime filmmaker Heather Young (Murmur, FIPRESCI Award winner).
WAVE Awards
The 15th anniversary conference wraps up Saturday, April 5, 6:30 p.m. with the 2025 WAVE Awards honoring three remarkable recipients from Atlantic Canada who have made a lasting mark on the screen industry.
