A young gymnast from Halifax jumped to the top spot in three events at her first World Cup event in Slovenia this weekend.

Ellie Black placed first on floor, beam and vault. She landed fifth place on bars.

"I’ve never really hit my beam routine exactly the way I want to in competition, and it was great to go out in the final and do it the way I planned," Black said in a release.

Black’s career has been soaring since the 17-year-old clinched the last spot on Canada’s Olympic gymnastics team that competed in London.

The team qualified for the Olympic finals for the first time in Canada’s history, while Black made the shortlist and entered the final round on vault.

Black trains at the Alta Gymnastics Club in Halifax.
