A woman is dead after a head-on collision Monday morning on Highway 102 near Shubenacadie, N.S.

In a news release Tuesday, RCMP said the woman was driving an SUV heading southbound between Exit 9 for Milford and Exit 10 for Shubenacadie shortly before 9 a.m. She then lost control, crossed the median and collided with a northbound dump truck. 

The woman died at the scene. The driver of the dump truck was not injured. 

Police said RCMP are working with the Nova Scotia medical examiner's office to identify the woman. 

The highway was closed Monday to all northbound traffic between Exit 9 and Exit 10 until 4 p.m., when one northbound lane opened.

Southbound traffic was also reduced to one lane along the stretch. Both lanes reopened shortly after 6 p.m.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
