An Alberta man, who's facing historical human trafficking charges in Nova Scotia, must wait nearly a year and a half before his case goes to trial.

The lawyer for Darrell Robert William Fisher, 37, appeared by telephone in Nova Scotia Supreme Court Thursday morning to set trial dates.

The earliest dates for which lawyer Jim O'Neil is available begin at the end of January 2027 and run for 25 days.

Fisher is facing 13 charges, including living off the avails of prostitution, sexual assault, making child pornography, uttering threats and a number of drug charges. Police said the alleged offences occurred between 2007 and 2010.

Fisher was initially facing 11 charges, but last year police added two drug offences to the list.

Because of the drug offences, both federal and provincial prosecutors are handling the case against Fisher, who remains free on conditions in the meantime.
