Halifax Regional Police have arrested four people in relation to one of two shootings early Wednesday morning.

A police tactical unit descended on a row of townhouses on Bras Dor Lane in Dartmouth after gunfire was reported in the Booth Street area around 5:40 a.m. AT. A residence was struck, but there were no reports of injuries.

A suspect vehicle was later found near Bras Dor Lane, about six kilometres away. Residents of Bras Dor Lane were asked to leave their homes, and nearby Demetreous Lane was closed to traffic.

Police could be heard on a megaphone ordering people inside one of the townhouses to come out immediately. Police eventually used tear gas in an apparent attempt to draw them out. The standoff lasted about four hours.

Police said later in a news release that four people were arrested. One person was released later in the day without charges.

In a news release Thursday, police said investigators seized an automatic rifle, a shotgun, two handguns, ammunition, cocaine and cash from a home and vehicle.

Three people — two 19-year-olds and a 20-year-old — face a slew of firearm-related charges, including discharging a firearm into or at a place in a reckless manner. They are also charged with production of a controlled substance and possession of cash obtained by crime.

One of the accused also faces charges of possessing a firearm or ammunition contrary to a court order as well as breaching a probation order.

At approximately 1:40 a.m. AT, police were called to a report of a shooting around the 5800 block of Duffus Street.

A 39-year-old man was shot and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators say a dark-coloured SUV was seen in the area at the time of the incident.

Halifax Regional Police spokesperson Const. John MacLeod said the two shootings are not connected.
