RCMP are warning of two incidents of suspected drink tampering in the Antigonish area.

Police have learned this month about two incidents involving people who believe a substance was put in their drink without their knowledge.

They happened at two different "licensed liquor establishments," the RCMP said.

Investigators are following up on the incidents and are asking anyone who believes they are a victim or who has witnessed drink tampering to contact them.

The town in the northeast of Nova Scotia's mainland is home to St. Francis Xavier University. Antigonish has a population of roughly 4,700, but that swells to about 10,000 during the school year.

Jacob Cruchet, president of the St. FX Students' Union, said while he doesn't know if students were involved in the recent incidents, they are deeply concerning nonetheless.

"I know this is something students are paying close attention to," Cruchet said in an email.

"Awareness of drink safety and access to support services are always important discussions on campus, especially with St. Patrick's Day approaching."

Cruchet urged students to be mindful and vigilant in social settings, look out for one another and seek support if needed. He said anyone with concerns can reach out to the university's sexual violence prevention and response advocate or to RCMP.
