An off-duty Halifax Regional Police officer has been charged by Nova Scotia's police watchdog with harassment in relation to allegations involving "a female known to him."

In a news release on Wednesday, Nova Scotia's Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) said it received a referral in May 2024 about alleged incidents that happened between September and October 2023.

After SIRT's investigation, Det. Const. Robert Baird was charged Wednesday with two counts of criminal harassment.

Baird will appear in Dartmouth provincial court on March 25.

Baird was previously charged in May 2024 with committing an assault against a woman known to him between Jan. 1, 2020, and Sept. 1, 2021.
