2 new schools announced for Dartmouth and Bedford

The Nova Scotia government has announced plans for two new schools that will be built in the fast-growing areas of Dartmouth and Bedford. 

They are on a list of 19 new or replacement schools being built in Nova Scotia as part of the government's $1-billion capital plan announced in 2023.

A news release Wednesday from the province did not say exactly where the schools will be located or which grades they will serve.

This school year saw five new schools open in the province:

• A new Breton Education Centre in New Waterford
• Springhill Elementary School, replacing Junction Road and West End Memorial schools in Springhill
• Eastern Shore Consolidated School, replacing Gaetz Brook Junior High and Eastern Shore District High Schools in Chezzetcook
• École Wedgeport, replacing the old French-language Conseil scolaire acadien provincial (CSAP) school in Wedgeport
• École Belle-Baie, a new, modular CSAP school next to the community centre in Torbay

 Three more are expected to open in the 2025-26 school year: 

• A new St. Joseph's-Alexander McKay Elementary School in Halifax
• École Baie Sainte-Marie, replacing CSAP's Écoles Joseph-Dugas and Stella-Maris in Clare
• A new French-language CSAP school on the Halifax peninsula replacing École Mer et Monde

There are also 14 other schools that are planned for locations across the province but have not yet started construction. Nearly all of them include a planned child care centre.
