A six-car train derailment in Belleville, Ont., temporarily blocked a street but did not cause any injuries, according to police and Canadian National (CN).

The derailed train blocked College Street E. just west of the Airport Parkway, Belleville Police Services said, asking people to avoid the area.

CN police, who protect CN property and people around it, attended the scene, according to Belleville police.

The derailment happened near Belleville's passenger rail station, about three kilometres northeast of the city's core.

The six railcars derailed inside the Belleville railyard, blocking a public crossing, CN said in a statement to CBC.

"All cars were upright and there were no injuries, no dangerous goods and no fires involved," the statement said.

The public crossing has since been reopened, while the cause of the derailment remains under investigation.
