Canada Votes 2025: Gatineau
There's movement to the riding's north around Highway 50 and Montée Paiement

Gatineau, one of four federal ridings in the western Quebec city of the same name, has undergone big changes at its north end.
The regular independent boundary review that followed the 2021 census takes the area west of Montée Paiement and north of Highway 50 from Pontiac-Kitigan Zibi.
It gives communities northeast of that interchange, such as the intersection of chemin Saint-Thomas and boulevard Lorrain, to Argenteuil-La Petite-Nation.
An area south of boulevard Maloney and as far west as avenue du Cheval-Blanc is also moving to Argenteuil-La Petite-Nation.
Check with Elections Canada to confirm your riding.
Gatineau has been Liberal under Steven MacKinnon since 2015, and mostly Liberal since 1949, but other parties occasionally win it. The NDP represented it from 2011 to 2015 for example.
MacKinnon got 50.03 per cent of the vote in 2021, landing 18 votes over the 50 per cent mark.
Campus advance voting is April 13 to 18, general advance voting is April 18 to 21 and the deadline to apply to vote by mail is April 22. Elections Canada has more information on voting options ahead of election day on Monday, April 28.
Here are the candidates so far. The deadline to register is April 7 and this story will be updated as candidates are confirmed.
Rachid Jemma, Green
Jemma has managed local McDonald's restaurants for more than 20 years, including helping with annual charity campaigns. He's also studied real estate.
Steven MacKinnon, Liberal
Before his election as MP, MacKinnon worked as a consultant on corporate mergers, advised Paul Martin when he was prime minister and Frank McKenna when he was premier of New Brunswick.
He was most recently jobs and families minister.
Richard Nadeau, Bloc Québecois
Nadeau was the Bloc MP here from 2006 to 2011. He is a retired teacher and has leadership roles in local dairy and historical groups.
Kethlande Pierre, Conservative
Pierre is a deputy director in a federal department that works in intellectual property. She's a former youth-in-care under Quebec's Directeur de la protection de la jeunesse, and is now a foster parent herself.
Mathieu Saint-Jean, People's Party
Saint-Jean has experience with human resources and customer service. He ran for Gatineau mayor in last year's byelection and the People's Party here in 2022.
In 2023 he pleaded guilty to obstructing a police officer in 2021 and was given a conditional discharge, meaning he wouldn't have a criminal record after a year if he followed a few rules. He told Radio-Canada it had to do with a dispute over mandatory COVID-19 mask rules at a store.
