Belleville man charged with drunk driving after fatal crash

Belleville, Ont., police say a 73-year-old woman was struck and killed in what they say was a drunk driving-related collision north of downtown on Friday night.

Belleville, Ont., police say a 73-year-old woman was struck and killed in what they say was a drunk driving-related collision north of downtown on Friday night.

At 9 p.m. on Friday, officers were called about a pedestrian being hit on St. Charles Street, according to a police news release.

The victim was taken to the Belleville General Hospital and pronounced dead. 

Police later arrested a 69-year-old man, charging him with impaired driving causing death and driving while his blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit.

Police didn't release his name and are encouraging anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward. 

The man remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
