Ottawa's record 49th shooting of 2014 happens New Year's Eve night
Police say two 'warning' shots fired into air in west Ottawa
The Ottawa police’s guns and gangs unit is investigating the city’s 49th and final shooting of 2014, coming with just hours left in the year.
Police said they were called to a report of gunshots in the 2100 block of Elmira Drive in west Ottawa just after 9 p.m. on Wednesday.
They said nobody was injured and there are no reports of damage.
On Friday morning, Staff Sgt. Ken Bryden of the guns and gangs unit said they’re pretty sure a male suspect fired two "warning" shots into the air.
This shooting happened in the same neighbourhood as another on Monday night, where a number of shots were fired into a car on Bloomsbury Crescent.
Bryden said they haven’t determined if the two shootings are linked or if Wednesday night’s shooting was gang-related.
Ottawa’s total of 49 shootings is a record high for the city, according to the guns and gangs unit.
