Prisoner at Ont. jail died from gunshot wound
Investigators conclude no criminal wrongdoing by guards who opened fire during prison fight
Provincial investigators say a prisoner killed during a fight at an eastern Ontario maximum-security jail died of a gunshot wound after guards opened fire.
Police investigating the incident on March 20 at Millhaven Institution, near Kingston, Ont., say an autopsy determined Jordan Trudeau, 29, died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.
The Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad said there was no criminal wrong doing by two prison guards who opened fire during a violent fight at the maximum-security facility.
Investigators say the incident began when several inmates attacked another inmate with weapons in the prison gymnasium, and that Trudeau was among those involved in the incident. Investigators said the corrections officers followed proper protocol.
Another inmate who was also shot was treated at hospital and has returned to Millhaven.
