Callbeck to receive insignia at ceremony in Ottawa
Former P.E.I. senator and premier Catherine Callbeck has been named to the Order of Canada.
Callbeck was one of 69 new appointments announced Wednesday by Governor General David Johnston.
Callbeck served as premier of P.E.I. from 1993 to 1996. She made Canadian history, becoming the country's first elected woman premier.
She was appointed to the senate in 1997 and retired in 2014.
She also served as a member of Parliament from 1988 to 1993.
The Order of Canada is one of Canada's highest civilian honours, established in 1967 to recognize outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation.
Recipients of the Order of Canada will be invited to accept their insignia at a ceremony to be held at a later date in Ottawa.
